Country singer rescues brother using an ATV

A country and western singer braved freezing temperatures when she leapt aboard an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to save her brother who was exposed to the elements.

Award winning recording artist Lisa McHugh, received an SOS from her sibling Shaun at 3AM after he had become stranded in a snow drift in Letterkenny, a town in Co Donegal, after a night out with work colleagues.

Drivers recruited for winter quad bike duties in Kilmarnock

As the exceptional winter weather continues its icy grip on Scotland, a specialist driver recruitment company in Kilmarnock, Driver Hire, has been able to fulfil an unusual request. Ayr-based business Peacock Salt contacted Driver Hire and asked them for four quad bike drivers to help them grit the iced-over Kilmarnock pavements.

First Capital Connect to use Quad Bikes for snow clearing

The UK rail company, First Capital Connect, is to use adapted quad bikes to clear snow from its station forecourts and car parks this winter. First Capital is believed to be the first train operator in the UK to use such vehicles in a snow ploughing role. The specialised quad bikes are capable of clearing of a station forecourt in around 15 minutes, and are to be operated by the company’s team of cleaners. They will be available for use in (more…)

Quad bikers do their bit for the environment

A group of young quad and motocross riders in the North Lanarkshire area of Scotland are taking a lead in reducing their carbon footprint. It was announced in late November that the North Lanarkshire Scramble and Quad Bike club’s members planted around 1,000 trees at the end of the season.

The young club members purchased and planted the trees in the Carrifan Wildwood, Moffat, in what will become an annual event. The trees will offset the carbon produced by the bikers’ machines at the Balbachie Track near Harthill. Mr. Bob Reid, the club’s chairman, said (more…)

Quad bikes to be used for gritting in Trafford

As snow and ice hit Britain for a second winter running, councils are putting ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) to effective use. Trafford, West Yorkshire, is using two adapted quad bikes for gritting of key pedestrian areas; one in the north and one in the south of the borough. Indeed the bikes have already been in action on Warburton Bridge at the onset of winter. The quad bikes have a trailer attached which spreads a salt solution which has a similar effect to grit. Police are appealing for information following quad bike thefts in early November from two farms in the Lockerbie area of Scotland.
