A country and western singer braved freezing temperatures when she leapt aboard an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to save her brother who was exposed to the elements.
Award winning recording artist Lisa McHugh, received an SOS from her sibling Shaun at 3AM after he had become stranded in a snow drift in Letterkenny, a town in Co Donegal, after a night out with work colleagues.
No public transport was available, and there were virtually no taxis out on the roads due to the hazardous driving conditions, forcing 27 year old Shaun to walk home in the arctic conditions. When he found himself in trouble, he made the call to his famous sister.
The 22 year old country singer said:
“I told him I couldn’t get my car out. It was snowbound.
“Then Shaun remembered the quad (bike) in the shed so he suggested I should try and pick him up on that. It was unlikely he could walk home in the slippery conditions.”
Lisa then used the quad bike to negotiate the icy country roads and take her brother home. She recounted her nightmarish ride:
“I can tell you it was a bitterly cold journey. It was like a ghost town in the snow on my way in.
“Then when I got there people trying to get home started throwing snowballs at me.”
She found her brother where he had been stranded, and began the journey back home where they arrived safe and sound.
Lisa played several gigs during the New Year in Ireland, then jetted to the United Kingdom to accompany American country and western vocalist Gene Watson on his tour.
