Custom quad bikes and gritters prepare for winter as first snow is seen in Lincolnshire

The summer has been and gone and with the oncoming winter comes snow and bitter cold. Council bosses are not taking any chances this year and confidence is high when it comes to keeping regions moving. We have already seen early snow this year in North Lincolnshire, along with bitter cold winds. However, Lincolnshire council hasn’t been caught out as it was prepared for making the A and B routes safe thanks to gritters and ATV salt spreaders.

In total, the council has had around 6,000 tonnes of salt delivered which, along with their ATV salt spreader and ATV snow clearing equipment, will help to keep the roads safe for travel. Along with this, they have purchased two brand new gritters which will replace older lorries.

Council workers have also been given backpacks which will be filled with a substance designed to help to keep pedestrian areas free of snow. Local councillor Nigel Sherwood said they had learned the hard way through events in the past and are now prepared for the worst. He said they had quad bikes ready, as these vehicles can get to places others cannot, and there will be workers with packs on their back to give even wider scope in dealing with the bad weather.

The council have more than 150 people ready to use machinery to clear away snow this year and everything has been put in place for the winter. In 2010 and 2011 there was record snowfall and they’re not taking chances this year.
