The events will be run by members of the local police force and other volunteers, and is aimed at giving young people who love quad bikes a place to ride them. Sergeant Richard Scott, who is chairman of the club, commented:

“It is the first time that anything like this event has come to the east coast. It will generate income for the town, as well as engaging young people and giving them the opportunity to do something different.”

It is intended that there will be four all-terrain vehicles available to ride, along with several motorbikes that are beach-ready. Attendees at the event will have the opportunity to ride them for £5. Any additional bikes brought along by the public will be allowed after they have passed inspection.

Children older than six years old will be able to race on several smaller bikes that will be there, or on their own vehicles.

Sergeant Scott was careful to point out that the event will be marshalled, and that they organisers have obtained £10m in insurance. He said:

“The only stipulation is that they must wear our hats, have stout shoes on and sign a disclaimer.”

The three hour events will take place from 11am on 1st August and from 10am on the 29th of August.
