The farm tested Kymco MXU 500i

The Kymco MXU 500i recently got a test out on the farm to see how suitable a farm quad it would make compared to the wide range of ATVs currently available on the market.

The MXU 500i is a 500cc quad bike that does not look overly large compared to some models. However, the rear suspension is on the beefy side and it is a very substantial machine that would look perfectly at home on the farm. It comes with 20bhp, automatic continuously variable transmission and a 499cc petrol engine. The MXU 500i is built in Taiwan and comes with some excellent specs.

There is nothing confusing about the farm quad, with all controls being laid out well. They explain themselves, making it ideal for a beginner to quads and farming. Selecting gears is made simple thanks to the level, which is easily accessible. Also within easy reach are the hand brake and the control for the four wheel drive and differential lock.

There is a convenient storage box occupying space on the right hand mudguard and this comes in very handy. There is also larger storage which is a little awkward to get to under the right rear hand mudguard. The ATV has plenty of power and acceleration is brisk even when pulling a trailer loaded with fencing, still reaching its maximum speed of 50 miles per hour.

All in all the farm test went very well, thanks to the quad having plenty of power for pulling and providing a ride that was great, with the plus of having excellent traction.
