A father from Northumberland has finished a 300 mile quad bike ride in aid of charity.

Ian Paterson, from Jarrow, took to his all-terrain vehicle to raise money for Help for Heroes, the charity which raises money to assist injured military personnel.

Police in Wentworth North now have a new means to tackle crime in the area – an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).

A recent inspection of All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in Scotland by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has produced worrying results, showing that people are not following basic safety rules.

The spot checks, carried out between 7th and 18th June, were part of an effort to curb the number of accidents involving ATVs, and found that an alarming number of riders had been ignoring basic safety guides.

The recent winter conditions experienced in the UK were some of the worst on record, and many councils were left completely unprepared for the effects caused by the snow and ice. Many councils ran out of grit, having built up very low stores, and many major roads were rendered unusable as the country came to a standstill.

Wrexham, in North Wales, was one such area, but Wrexham Council has taken measures to ensure this doesn’t happen again; measures that include the purchase of snow ploughs to be fitted to quad bikes in order to help clear the paths and roads from snow. We’re used to seeing the police ride around in police cars and vans, and in the old days we’d have seen many local ‘bobbies’ riding around on bikes. Now though, in the 21st century, we’re treated to bobbies on quad bikes – at least in Liverpool.

Liverpool has a lot of parks and open spaces, and patrolling these areas on foot takes a long time. They are also inaccessible for police cars, so local police have now drafted in two mountain bikes, and two Honda quad bikes to keep (more…)
