Two men from Sydney have completed their record breaking tour of the world on quad bikes. They arrived back in Australia with tears of both sadness and joy whilst they remembered their friend who was killed halfway through their 14 month record breaking attempt to travel the world on quads.
The friend was sadly killed after a car hit him approximately half way through their trip. The pair decided to continue on with their record breaking attempt in memory of the friend and said they felt him with them every step of the way, through all the challengers they went through.
The mother of their friend greeted them at the finish line and made a tribute to the two ATV riders who had bravely continued on with the trip, despite having lost their close friend and team member. They took their bikes back on the road and continued their attempt to travel the world on quad bikes just six weeks following the accident in Africa, which prevented Mr De Simoni from fulfilling their dream trip. The three friends had been planning the record breaking trip for a long time.
The trip raised $55,000 for Oxfam Australia and saw the boys going through 38 countries and three continents, Africa, Europe and Australia. While there was sadness at the ending, there were also celebrations of the team’s commitment. The money rose from the around the world ATV trip is to help the South African communities affected by AIDS and HIV. The trip is expected to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
