Police in Buntingford have received a boost against crime in the rural area by way of quad bikes. The Honda quad bike has been loaned to the Safer Neighbourhood Team at Buntingford for a year, following a meeting with local police and farmers regarding the struggle police have in the area to combat off-road crime. Buntingford is just one of many rural areas suffering crime due to the fact that those committing crimes have in the past had plenty of ways to escape where police were unable to follow.
The security training manager of the 2012 Olympics revealed that the quad bike will give security and police an edge in dealing with crime in the rural region. The presence of the police quad bike may be enough in itself in regards to those keeping down illegal activities, as the quad bikes are able to travel anywhere. The quad bike stands out in red and yellow with the word Police across the front of it.
The force has an ATV vehicle already which has been helping in tackling crime in very isolated regions, including woodland. Along with the quad a trailer has also been donated and this will allow police to carry supplies to areas where otherwise they would have trouble reaching.
Rural crime is a huge problem due to the fact that individuals know that typical police cars cannot follow them if they divert through woodland. The quad bike will allow police to follow and enter places they would otherwise be unable to venture. Two officers will now undergo training to use the vehicle safely and the East Herts Council has kindly provided protective clothing for the police to wear. It is hoped that the presence of the quad will deter crime and make people living in the area feel safer.
