Winter is just around the corner and Bedford council are prepared for a winter battle if we get a replay of last year. Many counties were under snow and left dealing with treacherous conditions and the council of Bedford was one of them. Some parts of Bedford being almost impossible for snow ploughs and gritters to reach. This year they have a brightly coloured, yellow, blue and red, quad bike which has been specially equipped.

The mayor of Bedford unveiled the secret weapon and reassured residents that the ATV was capable of reaching parts other vehicles could not reach. The machine will be sent to the town centre along with shopping parades and any areas where gritting lorries are unable to reach.

Along with their tailored quad bike the council has also announced they are using another pieces of modern technology, Twitter. Grittertweets will provide residents with the latest updates on any problem areas along with letting residents know when gritters will be salting throughout the area. The council also have a webpage dedicated to maintenance over the winter, keeping residents of Bedford up to date with the very latest information on conditions on the road along with any impact the weather is having on services offered by the council. This service was open last year and proved to be very effective.

Bedford suffered a great year over the last two years thanks to heavy snow and cold conditions and this year they are relying on some of the latest technology to help them.
