The United States Army is to be supplied with new ATVs and spare parts, along with trailers in Afghanistan thanks to a three year contract with Polaris which is worth $54 million.

Polaris has been awarded the contract following the completion of a three year contract which was awarded in 2007 by the army and which was successfully completed. Chief executive Producer of Polaris, Scott Wine, said they are the leading suppliers of military mobility platforms that are ultra-light and provide the men in the fields of war with some of the most capable high performance ATVs there are. Polaris has worked alongside military clients all over the world for nearly a decade and has integrated their unique needs with some of the most cost effective solutions. Polaris Defense was created in 2005 with the aim of being able to provide a team that was dedicated to focusing on the mobility challenges that soldiers are often faced with. Today the company provides a full range of military vehicles.

ATVs are useful in the field, especially in Afghanistan, due to the terrain. Quad bikes are able to traverse over the rocky dusty roads and mountains and enter into places where other military vehicles would not be able to venture. The quads used by the military are super tough vehicles with a rigged construction and deliver incredible performance. They have a frame of reinforced steel, racks and floorboards. The quads have flat racks that are capable of holding up to 204.1 kg, with tanks of duel fuel with a capacity of 33.1 litres and are powered by a liquid cooled Polaris Liberty 700 engine.
