Quad bikes tackle Liverpool’s weed problem

Filed under: Quad Bikes News — Mat on July 4, 2011

No one likes weeds; they are the gardener’s worst nightmare and we all fight a continuous battle against them. However Liverpool has more of a problem than most during the hot summer months with heavy rain mixed in, weeds that grow up to 6 feet tall. Now thousands of pounds are to be spent tackling Liverpool’s weed epidemic and quad bikes will help.

Environmental officers in Liverpool will take to quad bikes to carry out the work of weed destroying and they hope to be able to deal with as much as 40 square miles around the city in a single day. Quad bikes have been chosen as the preferred vehicle due to the fact that they can travel over rough terrain so the weeds will not pose a problem. The move has been made due to concerns that citizens around Liverpool could trip and fall on the weeds, which in some places are entangled and growing from the pavements. The overgrown weeds also make it very difficult for those using wheelchairs and pushing buggies and wheelie bins. Armies of exterminators on quad bikes will be sent out thanks to funding for the weeding program.

The city is in quite a predicament with the weeds as it takes around six weeks for the weeds to die away and if it rains during this period of time then it may cause them to grow again. The council are prepared to spend as much as £100,000 in the battle against being over run with weeds. It’s not so much Ghostbusters as it is Weedbusters.
