The organisers of the annual beach race held in Weston-Super-Mare have said that 2012 will be their biggest event yet as the race moves into its 30th year.
The event lasts for three days and is organised by RHL activities. This year, it will take place over October 12 – 14 and there will be many new attractions for 2012.
Organisers have said that on the Friday, youngsters will be able to take part in mini-bike racing. Honda is said to be attending with its Extreme Academy, which helps youngsters to learn more about racing and bikes. Then, on the Saturday, kids can get into a race quad and take part in a quad bike race during the morning which will then be followed on by a solo race for adults. This race is the main highlight of the weekend of race fun at the event and takes place during the afternoon. There will be an entertainment area and a fair, which will be held on the Beach Lawns.
This year, residents from local nursing homes will be visiting the beach before the event to watch tens of thousands of tonnes of sand be moved by diggers. VIPs will be able to watch the quad bike race course being built from the shelter of a marquee, where refreshments will be served.
At the moment, 400 riders are known to be taking part and it is thought that the event will bring in around 50,000 individuals over the two days.
