The NORRA Mexican 1000 rally is to take place over 27th April to 1st May and as usual, the official registration for the race was part of a New Year’s day tradition.

The race takes race quad riders, buggies, rally cars and other vehicles from the border of Baja in the northern area of Mexicali, all the way to the southern area of San Jose Del Cabo.

The unique rally runs over four days and major interest has been generated as a result of international publicity. The NORRA Mexican 1000 is thought to be the world’s first ever endurance race in the desert.

Last year, the rally-based format was highly successful and it will remain the same this year. The race will start off in 2013 with technical inspections and a car show, with the rally’s first stage setting off on 28th April. The rally will finish in the town of San Jose del Cabo with the award banquet being held at sunset in 1st May.

Each day of the race is set over stages and all of the contestants will be able to enjoy the superb scenery.

As with previous events, the focus will be on vintage machines. However, there are different categories, which include modern, along with vintage cars, desert machines, 4x4s, race quad bikes, dune buggies and motorcycles. It is thought that a few new classes will be added. The Mexican race is well known for the camaraderie among contestants.
