During the last month more than 160 farms all over the country have been visited by the Department of Labour for checks to ensure farmers and other workers using ATVs for work are using their bikes safely. Quad bikes are a common choice for farmers as they are a superb way to get around what is often very rough terrain.
Inspectors have been paying visits to farms up and down the UK handing out information on safety and security in relation to all types of quad bikes used in the workplace. The inspectors have been handing out leaflets with safety guidelines according to the quad bike campaign which began in April 2011. The majority of those who ride quad bikes for work associated tasks are very safety conscious and follow all the guidelines laid out already.
The inspectors have been ensuring that farmers are aware of safety measures and ensuring that quad bikes are being used in the way they are intended in the work place. Indeed ATVs are an excellent vehicle for farmers and others who have to navigate over any rough terrain, providing they are used correctly.
Inspectors have also been pointing out four key points relating to safety measures. Choosing the best vehicle for the job at hand, wearing safety gear which includes an helmet and ensuring that riders are experienced enough. It is expected that the inspectors will remain out and about visiting farmers until June, however the campaign for safety awareness will continue on until 2013.
