As the exceptional winter weather continues its icy grip on Scotland, a specialist driver recruitment company in Kilmarnock, Driver Hire, has been able to fulfil an unusual request. Ayr-based business Peacock Salt contacted Driver Hire and asked them for four quad bike drivers to help them grit the iced-over Kilmarnock pavements.
Driver Hire responded promptly. They found three drivers and had them trained in how to drive the quad bikes, and use the gritting equipment. The drivers began work at 5.00 AM each morning, in what’s become known as “an act of Quad”. The quad bikes have been used to apply a concentrated brine solution which helps rapidly to remove both snow and ice. Already one of the drivers has gone beyond the calling of duty by stopping to help a pedestrian who slipped and fell in the morning chill.
During the current big freeze, especially in the North of England and Scotland, quad bikes have been coming in to their own: assisting operations in Trafford, Greater Manchester, for instance. Councils have increasingly been recognising the manoeuvrability and ability flexibility offered uniquely by quad bikes, and retailers of used quad bikes in Lancashire have been on hand to advise riders about how to look after them in the sub-zero temperatures that have gripped the region.
Indeed, what makes the quad bike particularly useful is its ability to negotiate difficult terrain in all weathers, including floods. Quad bike retailers are well aware of the versatility that their bikes are capable of, and will happily supply you with spare parts and maintenance accordingly. Indeed, for farmers the range of new and used quad bikes available for sale is now quite remarkable.
