Couple turn mud into money in New Zealand

A couple originally from New Plymouth have found that they can turn mud into money in New Zealand. The couple, who are avid quad bike riders, have launched Egmont Quads Taranaki and are waiting for customers to arrive for the first hour long farm trail tours on quads.

The couple themselves took a tour around a farm on quads years ago and loved it. Sandra Johnston said that when you get older you look to do something that is a little on the unusual side. Riding around on a farm quad through mud is certainly different.

The farm trail is set over an eight hectare section of farmland in Taranaki where they bought their home. They bought the property specifically with building a quad bike track in mind. Last year the couple purchased six 350cc used ATVs from Trade Me.

Huzziff then set about digging out the quad bike track with the help of a bulldozer. In total he spent around 35 hours designing the track. At the moment the venture is one of a kind in the region. Huzziff said that the track was not particularly aimed at those who ride quad bikes regularly, but rather for those who wanted to try something new.

There are safety measures in place and anyone wanting to take to the track needs to be over the age of 16 and have a driver’s license. Training is given before allowing visitors to go on the tour, which is led by one of the couple. The quad bike track has been designed with beginners in mind and takes riders through mud, puddles, up and over ridges and through bush land for the cost $90 for one hour.
